It’s hard to go wrong when you have the three letters ‘A-M-G’ on a Mercedes-Benz.

What I have here today is an AMG… the Mercedes-Benz CLS AMG 55 no less.

A coupe is typically a two-door closed body style car but trust the people at Mercedes-Benz to come up with the creativity to launch a four-door coupe – the first-generation CLS back in 2004. Nowadays carmakers are venturing into new segments between existing segments, such as crossovers and re-inventing the meaning of names such as coupe.

The CLS marked Mercedes-Benz’s revisit to the executive-size coupe market since the E-Class Coupe (referred to as a two-door sedan) ceased production in 1995. For a while, the CLS enjoyed some monopoly of its new-found segment until Audi shot back with the A7 and BMW with the 5-Series GT and also the Passat CC (in concept, not so much price or status).

This pre-owned CLS AMG 55 is available for sale at Urban Motors and I had the chance to explore it. It is the modified version of the CLS produced by Mercedes-AMG. Features exclusive to AMG models include perforated sport seats, bigger light-alloy wheels, large air inlets and quad chromed oval exhaust pipes.

Powered by a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 engine, the CLS AMG 55 can produce 493bhp and  715 Nm, taking just  4.6 seconds to get from zero to 100km/h.

The inside of this car is pristine white and its leather has been kept in good condition.

Allowing natural sunlight to fill your cabin is the presence of a sunroof.

A coupe is typically not too generous in the back but from the onset, the CLS has been a unique coupe and there is no compromise on space in the rear. The back only seats two (due to its sculpted seating), with leg and head room in abundance – just be careful when getting in and out of the car due to the low sloping roof.

Boot space is abundant too.

The spacious boot can be operated automatically, at the convenience of a one-touch button.

The standard equipment offered on the car includes things like automatic headlights and climate control.

If you are familiar with the AMG badge, then you would know of its ability to deliver performance.
