This is one highly drool-worthy car and it needs no introduction – say hi to the Ferrari 458 Spider.

It’s not the usual Ferrari red, but it sits just as pretty in white.

Essentially, the Ferrari 458 Spider is the drop-top version of the Ferrari 458 Italia.

This 458 Spider is the first car ever to combine a mid-rear engine with a retractable folding hard top, which takes 14 seconds to unfold electrically.

At the heart of the Ferrari 458 Spider is a 4.5-litre V8 that packs 562bhp and 540Nm at its peak, working with the F1 seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox to reach 100km/h from rest in just 3.4 seconds – a mere tenth slower than the Italia despite being 50kg heavier than the coupé due to additional chassis strengthening.

The cabin of the 458 Spider is neat and tidy, typical of Ferrari.

There are a lot of buttons and it might take a short while to familiarise yourself with the functions.

The most exciting button of the Ferrari 458 Spider has to be the one on the steering wheel - the ‘manettino’ switch that allows you to switch between the different modes.

There is no gear lever and the shifting is all done with the steering-mounted paddle shifts. Pulling both back simultaneously sets the car in neutral and getting it into gear is just a pull of the (+) paddle, while downshifting is done with the (-) paddle. Reverse is engaged via a ‘R’ button on the centre console.

Driving a Ferrari will always turn heads and driving a Ferrari convertible will turn heads and drop jaws.

There is no mistaking a prancing horse when you hear it from afar and the feeling of all those horses in your hands when you are seated at the steering wheel is just incredible.
