Super Taikyu 2012 Round 1: A weekend at Fuji Speedway

I’ve been to Fuji Speedway before – the first time for HKS Premium Day last January and just two weeks ago for the Super Taikyu Series 2012 official testing session. One thing I will never get tired of is the view of Mount Fuji from the track – what a nice ‘distraction’ for the drivers huh!

541373_371431569557753_131620790205500_1130138_1086657746_nThe sun was out in full force today but temperatures were low with some chilly winds. This view, accompanied by the sounds of cars racing, is pretty easy to get addicted to…

The last two days the weather was quite gloomy and dreary with clouds blocking the top of the mountain, so I was very happy this morning when I was greeted with this on the way to the track:

Friday and Saturday were practice days and today was qualifying in the morning before the four-hour race in the afternoon. The PETRONAS Syntium Team achieved a 1-2 finish at this opening round of Super Taikyu Series 2012 with their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 coming in first and #28 in second. They won the title the last four years and this good start paves the way for their target of attaining the fifth consecutive title.

I’m not going into a full race report here, but rather, the next few minutes will simply be eye candy. Japan is known for having the cutest race queens, so here are some from Super Taikyu Round 1 at Fuji Speedway… Poor ladies were shivering in the cold!
