PUMA-supplied Red Bull Racing driver crowned champion for the first time

Herzogenaurach, Germany (15 November 2010) - The PUMA-supplied Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel made history in Abu Dhabi yesterday by becoming the youngest driver in F1 history to be crowned World Champion. Vettel held his nerve in one of the tightest finishes in F1 history to claim the top spot and get the points he needed to secure the 2010 title.

The Red Bull Racing driver was in imperious form as he fought off the challenges of his PUMA-supplied team mate Mark Webber and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, in addition to Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, who were all in contention before the race in Abu Dhabi. The victorious Vettel has been competing in a custom-designed PUMA Avanti racing suit and the shoe that’s helped him step on the gas so impressively this season – the PUMA SL Tech.

The SL Tech is inspired and influenced by direct feedback from top PUMA F1 drivers like Alonso. The new racing shoe shaves precious grams to create faster times, by including an asymmetric fit and lacing system with an additional tri hook closure to help the shoe wrap around the contours of the foot, and supporting the arch by a newly designed outsole chassis that allows a flat surface for pedal pressure.

The PUMA SL Tech Mid SF Sebastian wears are personalized – and fireproof of course – featuring his name. Thanks to Vettel it’s now fair to say that the PUMA SL Tech Mid SF is the fastest F1 shoe on the planet. PUMA first partnered with Red Bull Racing, the 2010 Driver and Constructors Champion, in 2007, but the brand has been designing and creating footwear and apparel for top teams and drivers since 1999.

PUMA’s involvement in motorsport began with its partnership with Williams F1. Since then, PUMA has partnered with other key drivers and teams including Benetton, Arrows, Prost, BAR-Honda, ING Renault, Sauber Petronas, Jordan Ford, Minardi F1, Panasonic Toyota and Jaguar Racing. PUMA is also a valued partner of Ferrari and Ducati.

Continually dedicated to innovation and design, PUMA meets the technological needs of the teams and drivers in an ever-demanding sport. These performance products have also been transformed into cult favorites within the consumer market in both lifestyle and fashion arenas. In the world of motorsport, PUMA has been there at every turn.
