Global lubricant specialist, Motul, formed a new technical partnership with the most successful South East Asia GT racing team of the last decade, Clearwater Racing.

The team will in 2013 be the first to race in Asia with the highly successful McLaren MP4-12C GT3, and the new agreement extends Motul’s involvement with the prestige sportscar marque following their existing partnerships with Hexis Racing and ART Grand Prix in Europe.

Based in Singapore, just as Motul Asia Pacific’s headquarters are, the two companies have many synergies and are recognised as being benchmarks for excellence in performance in their individual fields. The defending GT Asia champions will this year be racing in the full 2013 championship, heading to six of the best circuits in Asia to compete in a total of 11 rounds between May and November.

China, Japan, Malaysia and Macao are featured on the calendar, all of which are key markets for Motul in the region. In addition to the GT series, Clearwater Racing and Motul will also be seen working together at the Sepang MME 12 Hours, which year-on-year grows in stature as an international event, and other selected races.

Gregoire Zaugg, Sales and Marketing Director of Motul Asia Pacific, explained the reasoning behind the new partnership: “Motul’s incremental expansion in multiple Asian markets is important in reinforcing our positioning of premium products. On top of sharing the passion that racing fans have across the world, it is important for us to remain as a reference point in racing, which has long been a key for Motul’s success. This technical collaboration with Clearwater Racing, an impressively successful team, and McLaren – a name which carries so much history and is so respected for its technology – is indeed a strong asset. As usual, we will be making every effort to make this partnership successful for all parties.”

Having campaigned a Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 in recent years, against some of the world’s most prestigious GT sportscar brands such as Porsche and Lamborghini, Clearwater is enthusiastic about the challenge ahead with the McLaren MP4-12C GT3. The 2013 car will feature the latest technology as well as a turbo engine, and the challenge promises to be invigorating! The season and the partnership have already started well as, in early April, the first victory of the year and a further podium finish were clinched at the first round of the Malaysia Super Series in Sepang.

Arj Kulasegaram, Managing Director of Clearwater Racing Pte Ltd, commented: “Clearwater Racing is very proud of its new technical partnership with Motul. Motul lubricants and products will be used exclusively by Clearwater Racing on all its racing cars for the 2013 GT Asia Championship and for various endurance races through the year. Motul’s reputation for supplying top-grade products with a meticulous attention to detail fits in perfectly with Clearwater Racing’s own racing philosophy. We have no doubt that this partnership will produce fantastic results. We look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

The first two rounds of the GT Asia championship will take place on May 11-12 in Motegi, Japan.
