Finally Ladies’ Night @Kartright is back!

Held on 23 March after a one-year hiatus, I was so happy to bring back the female-only karting clinic.

We had pretty good response, with 21 ladies turning up on a precious Saturday evening to heat up the Kartright track.

The evening started off with a theory lesson by Carrie Choy, one of Singapore’s more active female karters.

The only female on the local karting outfit Veritas Racing, Carrie competed in several championships last year – read more about her here.

Once the theory lesson was completed, it was time to get onto the track for some driving fun… but not without a safety briefing by the professional staff of Kartright Speedway.

The practical session was split into three parts – warm-up, practice and a time trial, with the ladies split into three groups. Friends who came together were kept in the same group as far as possible, so they could kart together.

It was very encouraging to see spouses, partners and families of the ladies cheering them on from the sidelines.

In fact, quite a number of ladies were signed up for the course by their partners – which I think is really sweet.

One of them even planned this as a surprise and she didn’t even know she was karting till they took her to Kartright. NICE!

Once the ladies were geared up, they were ready to get on track and take some corners.

After the warm-up and practice sessions, Carrie gave them some tips on how to improve their driving so that they could get a better time for the shootout.

In their respective groups, they went out for the time trial and the fastest three timings overall were awarded trophies for their performance.

Congratulations to Stephanie Ong (50.627), Sarah Tan (51.420) and Angeline Ooi (51.642) for being the fastest three ladies of the night!

Whether you’re a first timer or you have tried karting before or has competed in karts, you are more than welcome to join Ladies’ Night @Kartright! It’s a gathering for women who love karting so we can rule the track without having to worry about the men.

The next Ladies’ Night @Kartright is in the process of being planned – stay tuned for the date!
