Saving fuel is a lifestyle change that requires adopting good driving habits, which will in turn lead to better fuel economy. There are common fuel saving tips such as lightening the car’s load, accelerating gently, not leaving the engine on idle for too long, no hard braking, planning the journey well and more. Many people are aware of these logical actions that will help to save fuel, but how many actually practise them?
Shell has been aggressively pushing their fuel saving campaigns the last few years and this year is no different. They recently conducted a study on 521 drivers in Singapore and found out that 68 per cent have changed the way they drive so as to reduce fuel consumption and 85 per cent would change the way they drive if it helps to save money on fuel.
The problem is, knowing the recommended driving habits and behaviours to improve fuel efficiency is one thing, but practising them regularly is another thing. With 26 per cent of the drivers surveyed saying that there is not enough information on reducing fuel consumption available and 22 per cent stating that they simply do not know how to do so, Shell is determined to continue educating the public on fuel saving habits.
This year, Shell launched ‘Target One Million’, a Shell FuelSave campaign that targets to teach one million motorists across the world how to save fuel through a series of six interactive online games. The first game – the Shell FuelSave Challenge – is now available here and is open to anyone, while the other five games will gradually be launched over the coming months.
