Formula Drift Malaysia next month is 2011 season finale as Formula Drift Thailand is cancelled.

Formula Drift Malaysia next month at Dataran Merdeka is initially scheduled as the third leg of the four-round 2011 Formula Drift Asia season, after Formula Drift Singapore in June and Formula Drift Indonesia in October. With that, Formula Drift Thailand 2011 was postponed to February 2012.

However, official notice has been announced that Formula Drift Malaysia will be the season finale instead, as Formula Drift Thailand 2011 is cancelled due to the country’s natural disaster recovery efforts.

Driftpac (technical consultant and founder of Formula Drift Asia) will be aiding the Thai’s flood relief efforts by donating proceeds from the sale of official Formula Drift merchandise – so get yours at Formula Drift Malaysia! :)

Formula Drift Thailand will return as part of the 2012 Formula Drift Asia calendar though.

Here is the official note from the organisers:

Dear fans of Formula Drift,

It is with great regret and apology that we are announcing the cancellation of Formula Drift Thailand 2011 that was scheduled for February 2012. The 2011 Formula Drift Asia season thus culminates in Malaysia next month at Dataran Merdeka on 17 and 18 December.

At Formula Drift, the sport of drifting is our passion but we believe there are more pressing issues for the Thai community at present and we would like to express our heartfelt concern for all affected parties of the Thai natural disaster.

In support of their national rebuilding efforts, Driftpac Pte Ltd will be donating proceeds from the sale of official Formula Drift merchandise to notable and worthy Thai charities.

Formula Drift Thailand will return in the third quarter of 2012 as part of next year’s Formula Drift Asia season, which will is scheduled to be a four-round series in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
