Formula Drift Long Beach 2012: Setup + Driver Parade

Written by Cheryl Tay on . Posted in Cheryl Tay Blog | Blog Post of Cheryl Tay

I’m at Long Beach this weekend soaking up the Californian sun and embracing the energy from the opening round of the 2012 Formula Drift USA Series.

I arrived in Los Angeles Airport (LAX) on Wednesday morning after 18 hours of flying and pretty much spent the rest of the day in a daze as I tried to adjust to the time difference (Singapore is 15 hours ahead!).

On Thursday, the track was being put together as the containers were unloading and the grandstands were going up. I even saw the steps of some of the grandstands being painted blue:

In the evening there was a parade for selected drivers to roll down the streets of Long Beach. I was on the open-top double-decker media bus ahead of the convoy to capture how they literally took the streets by storm and created such a presence, at all times accompanied by police escorts of course.
