Ferrari celebrates 2012 Singapore F1 GP with adrenaline pumping events

Leading up to the 2012 Formula1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix in September, Ferrari will be hosting several adrenaline pumping events.

Ferrari will join in launching the F1 season in Singapore by showcasing an exhibit at the Marina Bay Sands highlighting the marque’s unique history. On display from 5 to 24 September, the exhibit will take visitors on a journey beginning in 1929, when Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari, through to today’s luxurious, powerful supercars

On 18 September, the F12berlinetta, the first in a new generation of Ferrari V12s, will make its way to Singapore and will be on display on Level 1 of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. The fastest, most powerful and high-performance Ferrari road car ever built features an incredibly efficient engine – in terms of mechanical, combustions and fluid-dynamics efficiency – which, together with advanced vehicle architecture, aerodynamics, components and electronic controls, guarantee unsurpassed driving involvement whether on road or track. The new Prancing Horse 12-cylinder accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and from 0-200 km/h in 8.5 seconds and its fuel consumption has been reduced by 30%, with CO2 emissions of just 350 g/km – figures which put the F12berlinetta at the top of the high-performance league.

Ferrari_F12_3To complete the exciting motorsports month, Ferrari will also be hosting one of the Formula1 support races. One of the most popular one-make series, the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli will conclude its Asia Pacific series in Singapore during the 2012 Formula1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix in September.

For the first time, 32 of the 4.5-litre 570 horsepower V8 berlinettas in the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific 2012 will grace the Singapore streets and bring their championship-closing round to the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The action packed Challenge features two categories: the Coppa Shell for novice gentleman drivers and the Trofeo Pirelli for those who already have competition experience.

Established in 2011, the Asia Pacific series has proved to be a great success continuing a tradition that began in Europe in 1993. The Prancing Horse’s racing DNA was translated not just into the Formula1, but also through the birth of a championship that has evolved into the benchmark for this type of racing.

The five-stage 2012 APAC series commenced in March in Japan followed by China and Malaysia and will conclude in Singapore. The sixth leg will take place in Europe, specifically at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali where the protagonists from all divisions of the three single-make series (APAC, Europe and North America) will compete for the world title.

Adding onto the excitement of the arrival of the Ferrari Challenge is Singapore’s very own Gregory Teo. The Coppa Shell driver represented his country proudly when he won podium in the inaugural APAC series last year. Teo began his racing career back in 2000 and has taken part in both amateur and professional races including Ferrari Track Day, Ferrari Pilota Japan Corso Avanzato and the Ferrari Challenge APAC series. He is currently a member of the Ferrari Owners’ Club Singapore and Singapore Motorsports Association.
