In this day and age, we witness the emergence of successful women business leaders. More and more women are taking on multiple roles as working people, caregivers and mothers; pursuing their careers while balancing their family commitments at the same time.
It is encouraging to see the increasing number of females in the workforce today and the resulting inevitable rise in the number of women, and working mothers, in management level positions.
Focusing the spotlight on women and career, the People’s Association (PA) Industry Guru Series by the PMET Division conducted ENTERPRISING MINDS, VISIONARY LEADERSHIP: JAPAN – SINGAPORE PERSPECTIVE on 27 August 2012 at Ulu Pandan Community Club (CC).
Speakers for ENTERPRISING MINDS, VISIONARY LEADERSHIP included female entrepreneurs such as Tomomi Sugahara (founder of the Emerald Club of Japan and founder of Japanese serviced office business NATULUCK Inc), Nanz Chong-Komo (motivational speaker and the entrepreneur behind the former ONE.99shop) and Dr. Doreen Tan (chairman of publicly-listed Best World International).
Tomomi Sugahara is a strong advocate of women’s entrepreneurship, having founded NATULUCK, Inc. and the Emerald Club of Japan where motivated business-minded women meet, share information and network with the shared aim of excelling in business. The Emerald Club of Japan is a support and networking platform for Japanese women CEOs dedicated to promoting business leadership by women in Japan.
Nanz Chong-Komo is the entrepreneur behind former homegrown multi-million dollar business ‘ONE.99shop’. Today, she is a best-selling author, online publisher, business coach and motivational speaker.The Overall Winner of the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2000 has a wealth of insights and experiences to share.
Dr. Doreen Tan is the co-founder and chairman of Best World International, a public-listed company with direct selling as its core business that specialises in premium quality skin care and health supplements. Her outstanding achievements in the business world have earned her several accolades including the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Sharing their unique perspectives and experiences as women in the complex world of business, Grassroot Adviser Mrs Josephine Teo, Minister of State for Finance and Transport, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, also went on stage to give her insights.
Japanese Ambassador to Singapore, His Excellency Yoichi Suzuki, members of the Japanese Embassy as well as visiting members of the Emerald Club of Japan were also present. Other established guests include Ms. Yasuyo Michibata, president of Social Manner Link Co., Ltd, Life of Prosperity School and executive director of NPO Heart License, Ms. Megumi Osawa, osteopathic therapist and president of Grace Co.,Ltd, Ms. Yukie Ui, CEO of ouiui Inc., Ms. Keiko Shiga, President of Ambrosia Co.,Ltd, Ms. Kumiko Utsumi, CEO of Green-T Co. Ltd and Ms. Yasuko Aoki, media consultant manager at COMM Pte Ltd.
After the talks, all four women returned to the stage for a dialogue session with the audience.
ENTERPRISING MINDS, VISIONARY LEADERSHIP is part of the Industry Guru Series of professional development and networking events that PMET Division organizes with the various CCs to assist Singapore professionals in their career development and provide a platform for Singapore professionals to come together as a community to make friends as well as share ideas and activities.
