Do Good Today

Two weeks back, I attended a seminar titled Pursuing Happiness and one of the speakers, Ms Yeo Sha-En, founder of Positive Education, gave us five questions to ask ourselves everyday. These questions, she said, might help you to lead a happier life:

1) What are you grateful for today?
2) What are you saying to yourself?
3) What can you let go of?
4) What good can you see in others?
5) What can you do for others?

I immediately asked myself these questions and had a little hesitation somewhere, but it did help me to see things on a brighter horizon. It made me think – When was the last time you did something for someone out of the pureness of your heart? Do you perform a good deed everyday?

Then I was introduced to the Do Good campaign – how timely!

There is a latest national initiative called Do Good, that encourages Singaporeans to carry out simple acts of good deeds and share the joy of giving with their family and friends.

Created by the FairPrice Foundation, it is hoped that everyone can take the initial steps towards doing good and influence the people around them to do the same.

The campaign tagline, “Small Deeds Big Differences,”serves to remind that the collective strength of good deeds, no matter how small, can make a real difference to someone’s day.

On the website, you can share your stories of kindness or pledge your deeds and collect badges. The more deeds pledged, FairPrice Foundation will donate a sum of money to charity.

Also, if you have an idea that you think will bring out the goodness in Singaporeans, submit your proposal and the winning submissions will receive up to a grant of S$5,000 to carry out their project under the mentorship and guidance of FairPrice Foundation and/or its appointed partners. Closing date for submissions is 31 August 2013.

I’ve been one of the fortunate few who have been equipped with a Do Good kit!

In this kit, there are various suggestions on good deeds:

For example, you can bake cookies for a friend, write notes to a loved one, help Mum do the laundry for once, or motivate a colleague to get active and exercise.

When you do good, you will end up feeling good about yourself and life will suddenly be a much better place. Spread the goodness!!
