All-New 2013 Nissan Sylphy moves up in Style, Sophistication and Refinement.
Tan Chong Motor Sales, sole distributor of Nissan vehicles, is proud to unveil the all-new 2013 Nissan Sylphy. Following its global premiere in China last year, Sylphy has been launched in the USA, Japan and Thailand and it will be sold in approximately 120 countries globally. The all-new Sylphy has been developed with class-above design standards both interior and exterior, as well as efficiency in engineering while retaining its popular features.

Modern, Premium Design
Sylphy’s all-new design is elegant, modern and refined, reflecting a “professional” character targeted at upwardly bound buyers who aspire to drive something more premium than some of the other designs in the segment. It adopts Nissan’s bold new signature trapezoid-shaped grille and large wraparound headlights with LED accents. In the rear, LED taillights are also standard, which complements the sophisticated styling.
Compared to the previous design, Sylphy’s beltline has been lowered and a new character line has been added that runs from the front fenders, along the sides, and finishes at the sculpted taillights and trunk lids, giving the sedan a more aggressive stance and enhanced outward visibility for passengers. Other exterior features include chrome door handles, window accents and side moldings as well as door mirrors with integrated turn signals*.
The 2013 Sylphy is built on a new platform that is lighter than the previous design, contributing to the new model’s five percent weight reduction. It also helps Sylphy provide one of the largest interior volumes in its class, along with ample rear seat legroom and enhanced trunk capacity.
A Premium, Class-Above Interior with Class-leading Space
Nowhere is the all-new Sylphy’s ‘class-above’ style more evident than in the interior, with its roominess, high quality finishing and comfortable three-layered seat that absorbs vibration while on the road. Extra attention is also paid to isolating noise, vibration and harshness from entering the cabin.
Sylphy’s sophisticated new look continues inside with a high-quality interior design with materials not usually found in its class. This includes soft-touch instrument panel and door armrests, leather-appointed seating and Maple wood-tone trim*. Along with offering the best-in-class knee room, the intuitive interior layout emphasizes driver control and outstanding seat comfort for all occupants. The instrument panel curves out towards the doors and features Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges that are backlit even in daylight, providing an upscale look that is also easy to read.
Sylphy has long been known as one of the roomiest sedans in its class and the latest iteration is no exception. Rear seat legroom of 95cm is among the largest in class and immediately apparent to occupants, even with the front seats in the rear-most position. This is the result of the fine-tuning of its dimensions, which created not only extremely well-balanced exterior proportions but also enhanced rear seat legroom and a larger, more usable trunk space.
Standard interior features include front and rear door pockets, front center console with padded armrest and cup holders, rear seat armrest with cup holders, rear air-conditioner vents, tilt and telescopic steering column and Nissan’s Intelligent Key system which allows keyless entry and engine ignition.
A new Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control system is offered for the first time with Sylphy, allowing the driver and front passenger to select their own individual temperature settings.
Super smooth drive with 2 engine choices mated with next-generation XTRONIC CVT® (Continuous Variable Transmission)
As expected from a ground-up redesign, the new Sylphy features 2 new all-aluminum engine choices – 1.6-litres and 1.8-litres.
The newly developed 1.8-litre MRA8DE advanced DOHC 4-cyinder engine offers a longer stroke than typical engines in its class, resulting in improved combustion speed and efficiency. The engine is equipped with a twin Continuously Variable Timing Control (CVTC) system which modulates both the intake and exhaust valve opening time. The engine’s internal friction has been reduced, improving efficiency. In addition, the valve springs are shaped similar to a beehive, with a smaller diameter towards the top – reducing inertia weight, improving valve train efficiency and smoothing engine operation. The engine is rated at 130 horsepower and 174Nm of torque.
The lightweight, all-aluminium 1.6-litre HR16DE engine comes with a Dual Injector system and the application of Twin VTC system that provides good fuel efficiency, power, torque and a low emission. It generates 116 horsepower and 154Nm of torque.
Both new engines are matched with next-generation XTRONIC CVT® (Continuous Variable Transmission). The new CVT features a host of enhancements (versus the previous CVT) that contribute to an improvement in fuel efficiency and lower vehicle weight. It also offers a wide gear ratio of 7.3:1 through use of a subplanetary gear and smaller pulleys, resulting in high-speed fuel efficiency at low rpm and responsive acceleration.
The all-new Sylphy also features an independent strut front suspension with stabilizer bar, torsion beam rear axle with integrated stabilizer bar, power-assisted vented front disc/rear drum braking system (4-wheel disc brakes are available), and vehicle speed-sensitive electric power steering.
Both variants of the Sylphy are entitled to a $5,000 CEVS Rebate.
