Electrifying entertainment lined up for the 2013 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX
What does a knight, a magician, a dhol drummer and a soul singer have in common? Patrons at the 2013 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX can expect them, and more, as part of race promoter Singapore GP’s electrifying entertainment line-up that includes an Asian chart-topper on Friday (details to be announced) THE KILLERS (Saturday), RIHANNA (Sunday), and JUSTIN BIEBER (Monday).
In addition to the myriad of international showstoppers, Singapore GP is proud to present a collective showcase of Singapore’s brightest music talents.
Here is a preview of the spectacular range of entertainment you can catch over the race weekend at the Marina Bay Street Circuit:
Legendary singer TOM JONES will perform at the Village Stage in Zone 1 on Sunday, 22 September.
An artist with a true rhythm and blues soul, the Grammy Award winner has released a succession of gold and platinum singles and albums, which include hit singles such as ‘Delilah’, ‘Sex Bomb’, ‘It’s Not Unusual’ and ‘What’s New Pussycat’.
Tom Jones was knighted by Her Majesty The Queen in 2006 in recognition of his services to music. Other highlights of his 40-year career include receiving a BRIT Award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’, a Silver Clef Award for Lifetime Achievement and a Hitmaker Award by the prestigious (US) Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Entry to Tom Jones’ concert is included with any three-day 2013 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX Zone 1 ticket or Sunday single-day Pit Grandstand special ticket.
Esteemed singer-songwriter and philanthropist BOB GELDOF will rock the Village Stage in Zone 1 on Friday, 20 September.
The Irishman rose to fame as the lead singer of Irish rock band The Boomtown Rats in the late 1970s and early 1980s, producing the hits ‘Rat Trap’ and ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’. In 1984, he co-wrote one of the best-selling singles of all time, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’, and raised over £8 million for famine relief in Ethiopia. Geldof has since devoted much of his time campaigning for debt relief for developing countries, which led to the organisation of Live 8 concerts and raising over £150 million as a result.
His efforts have culminated in a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II, as well as a ‘Man of Peace’ title which recognises individuals who have made an “outstanding contribution to international social justice and peace”, amongst numerous other awards and nominations.
Entry to Bob Geldof’s concert is included with any three-day 2013 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX Zone 1 ticket.
Hailed as “one of the most highly touted would-be stars of 2013” by British national daily The Guardian, soul singer-songwriter LAURA MVULA has taken the United Kingdom by storm. Despite having only released her debut album Sing To The Moon in March this year, the 26 year old has already been nominated for the 2013 BRIT Awards Critics‘ Choice, awarded fourth place for BBC’s Sound of 2013 and described as “the voice of 2013” by The Evening Standard.
The Guardian has even coined a new genre – “gospeldelia” – for her “soulful vocals and florid soundscapes”. Listen out for Mvula’s velvety harmonies at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre (Friday), Village Stage (Saturday), and Paddock Club Lifestyle Area (Sunday).
English illusionist DYNAMO has crossed the River Thames on foot, levitated comedian Matt Lucas four feet off the ground at the Emirates Stadium in London, and performed dozens of jaw-dropping tricks to unsuspecting strangers and celebrities as part of his award-winning television series Dynamo: Magician Impossible.
Over the race weekend, Dynamo will be weaving his brand of brilliant street magic throughout Zone 1 and Zone 4. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Afro-Parisian musician DABY TOURÉ’s silky vocals are a cultural feast to the ears. Be transported to the rich landscapes of the Sahara when Daby Touré sings at the Esplanade Park Stage (Friday), Paddock Club Lifestyle Area (Saturday), and the Marina Stage (Sunday).
THE DHOL FOUNDATION have put a twist of modern swagger into the traditional North Indian dhol drum. Having performed at the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony and opened the Queen’s Coronation Celebration (2013), this group is a must-watch at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre (Saturday) and Village Stage (Sunday).
WAIORA is a unique collaboration between Horomona Horo – the only full-time practitioner of an ancient Maori musical art-form – and guitarist Joshua Rogers. They have made waves internationally with their hypnotic blend of tribal music that explore the Maori culture using traditional instruments, waiata (song), western instruments and traditional dance. They will be performing at the Esplanade Park Stage (Saturday), Marina Stage (Sunday), and Paddock Club Lifestyle Area (Sunday).
